MathCounts is a national organization promoting middle school mathematics and mathletes through training and competition.  SASSDS has sent mathletes to the annual competition since 2000.    The competition takes place in ascending stages:  at the regional, state, and national levels.  The annual national winners of MathCounts meet the President of the United States, and gets lots of attention and prizes, including college scholarships.   Last year's final was televised and shown on ESPN!  It is the premier middle school mathematics competition in the United States.

Here are some sample problems:

1. How many distinct three-digit numbers can be written with the digits 1, 2, 3 and 4 if no digit may be used more than once in a three digit number?
2. A quiz has only 3-point questions and 4-point questions. The best possible score is 100 and there are 29 questions. How many 4-point questions are there?
3. How many square numbers are there greater than  1,000,000 and less than 9,000,000?
